Donald F. Montileaux

Donald F. Montileaux (Oglala Lakota) is a master ledger artist. Following in the footsteps of his forefathers, he has rekindled ledger are with his collection of striking images that capture the unique Lakota way of life.

Montileaux was born on January 3, 1948 on the Pine Ridge Reservation, Pine Ridge, South Dakota, and is an enrolled member of the Oglala Lakota Tribe. He attended college in Spearfish, South Dakota, and received formal art training at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Upon graduating for IAIA in 1969, he continued to refine his skills and participated in numerous area are shows while pursuing a professional career at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City, South Dakota for twenty-two years.

Montileaux interned under noted artist Oscar Howe and also credits his personal friend and mentor the late Herman Red Elk as his primary artistic muse. Montileaux's art is represented in many private and public collections. He has illustrated covers for ten books and has been the featured artist in galleries in New Mexico, Minnesota, Arizona, Colorado, Montana, Illinois and South Dakota. His most recent cover is "Hundred in Hand" by Joseph M. Marshall III. Montileaux dedicates himself to further exploring his gift and to introducing ledger art to new generations.

Roger Broer

Roger Broer (Oglala Lakota) was born in Omaha, NE in 1945. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Art from Eastern Montana College and did graduate work at Central Washington University. He has over 50 awards in national shows, including Northern Plains Tribal Arts, Trail of Tears Show, and the Red Cloud Art Show. He has exhibited in more than 35 solo shows, over 100 group shows, and has are work in both national and international collections. Roger is a well known educator who has conducted workshops in printmaking, painting, sculpture and drawing across the nation.
